Dance Class Desctiption — Children & Teens
Pre Ballet 1/Creative Movement 1 (Ages 2): 30 Minutes
Creative movement to various musical beats. Clap, sing and march to the beat! Try a chasse with the teacher or another student. Taking turns is the first step in learning about dance class. These young students enjoy watching themselves through the mirror as they move and interact with the teacher and other students. A guardian is welcome in the class to assist where needed. A guardian is not required to sit in the class with the child. We ask that you do not leave the premesis during the student's class time.
Pre Ballet 2/Creative Movement (Ages 3): 45 Minute
Creative movement to various musical beats. Clap, sing and march to the beat! Practice chasses! Add some basic ballet moves too. Practice going across the floor by themselves or in a group. Practice dancing one by one or in a group across the floor.
Pre Ballet 3 (Ages 4): 45 Minutes
Creative movement and basic ballet positions. Use space, create shapes, clap and count out rhythmic combinations.
Ballet Basics (Ages 5 — 6): 45 Minutes
Add basic skips, ballet jumps, and coordinate head and upper body movements.
Ballet 1 and 2 (Ages 7 — 9): 60 — 90 Minutes
Ballet barre sequence with basic floor combinations increasing with difficulty.
Character Dance (Ages 7 and up): 30 — 45 Minutes
Character dance is in classical ballets and various dance styles are taught such as the polka, waltz, polonaise or mazurka and spanish dances. Various sessions of character dance class cover different dance styles. Exercises may start at the barre and continue in the center with choreography for stage dances. Classical/Character folk dance styles. Special shoes and skirt may be required. Enrollment in ballet required.
Pre Professional Ballet Classes (Ballet 3 and up): 60 — 90 Minutes
Develop strength at the barre and center floor work with combinations, jumps and turns that increase with speed, height, duration and flexibility. Pointe work added. 4 — 6 classes per week required depending on year in program. Scholarships based on need and availability.
Pre Pointe through Pointe 5: 30 — 90 Minutes
The beginning pointe classes are offered for students attending 3 or more classes a week for 11 years or older. The time intervals of pointe work will increase as the strength of each student improves throughout the year.
Hip Hop Basics (Ages 5 — 6): 30 — 45 Minutes
Begin with learning coordination of head and upper body movements. Add leaps, turns, and body isolations with the latest to date moves. Join the hottest steps set with fun choreography.
Hip Hop 1 — 3 (Ages 7 — 9, 10 — 13, 14 and up): 45 — 60 Minutes
Dance to the beat as you learn basic floor combinations that will increase with difficulty.
Jazz Dance (Ages 7 and up): 30 — 45 Minutes
This class focuses on a specific style of dance seen on the Broadway stages of New York City! The class begins with a ballet and jazz warm up technique and then focuses on repertory from some of today's most popular Broadway hits, such as: H. S. Musical, Hairspray and Fame to name a few. This is an opportunity for ARCC students to develop new techniques in dance that is theatrical, challenging and fun!
Tap (Ages 5 and up)
Add basic tap terminology. Focus on counting and footwork. Add combinations of footwork and various rhythms across the floor!
Dancing Creatures (Ages 3 — 4 and 5 — 6)
This series includes a forty five minute dance class, yoga stretches, a story or an art project and lunch (bring a packed lunch)
Requirements:
• Students must be toilet trained
• Students must bring a healthy packed lunch, snack and drink
Guest Artist Teaching Series (Ages 7 and up)
Experience a wide range of dance, art and music classes offered by distinguished guest teachers. Requirements may vary.
Irish Step Dance (Ages 5 — 14), The Art of Flamenco Dance Series (Ages 7 — 14), Tap Dance (Ages 4 — 14 ), Character Dance (Ages 7 and up)
